This weekend, a new ad aired for the Trump campaign featuring Dr. Fauci speaking on the response from the administration.
After the ad went live, Dr. Fauci was livid, putting out a narrative that is just flat-out false.
The ad quotes Fauci stating, “I can’t imagine that anybody could be doing more.”
That quote was taken from a televised interview Fauci did where he made it quite clear the administration was doing everything possible to battle COVID-19.
Fauci responded to the ad, stating, “In my nearly five decades of public service, I have never publicly endorsed any political candidate.
“The comments attributed to me without my permission in the GOP campaign ad were taken out of context from a broad statement I made months ago about the efforts of federal public health officials.”
That is misleading, though, because it did not portray Fauci as endorsing Trump, only the administration’s response to the pandemic.
The Trump campaign immediately responded, making that exact point, stating, “These are Dr. Fauci’s own words.
“The video is from a nationally broadcast television interview in which Dr. Fauci was praising the work of the Trump Administration.
“The words spoken are accurate, and directly from Dr. Fauci’s mouth.
“As Dr. Fauci recently testified in the Senate, President Trump took the virus seriously from the beginning, acted quickly, and saved lives.”
