The last surviving member of one of World War II’s most famous military units has passed away.

Bradford Freeman, a member of Company E, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division, died on Sunday.

Freeman was 97 years old.

Band of Brothers

If Company E, or Easy Company, sounds familiar, it should.

The unit was the subject of the miniseries, “Band of Brothers.”

Freeman was born in Artesia, Mississippi, and will be buried Friday in Caledonia, Mississippi.

He enlisted at the age of 18 and volunteered to be a paratrooper, eventually assigned to the 101st Airborne.

On D-Day, he parachuted into Normandy, fought in Operation Market-Garden, the Battle of the Bulge (where he was wounded), as well as being part of the occupation of Berchtesgaden, Germany, and Austria.

When the war was over, he returned home to Caledonia, got married, and worked as a mail carrier for more than 30 years.

Just last year, the last surviving officer of Easy Company passed away, leaving Freeman as the unit’s sole survivor.

He may be gone, but he will not be forgotten… rest in peace, Bradford, and thank you for your service.
