It is official…
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is stepping down from leadership.
She will retire as House Speaker in January, ending her reign of terror in leadership.
Pelosi will clear the way for the next generation of Democrat leaders to take up the cause.
Good Riddance
Unfortunately, the second half of that announcement was not what we had hoped.
We were also expecting Nancy to retire, but, at least for now, she plans on staying in the House and serving as a mentor.
Normally, for such a speech, the House would have been packed.
Today, there were maybe a half-dozen GOP House members on hand to hear her speak.
The most notable absence was minority leader McCarthy.
Rep. Steve Scalise, the Minority Whip, was on hand, and joined in on the standing ovation, so file that one away for later.
The favorite to take over her leadership role is going to be Hakeem Jeffries.
Initially, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) was making a move, but he quickly discovered that the caucus had other ideas.
There are now whispers that Schiff will try to move to the Senate, but he may find that just as challenging.
