One of the greatest musicians of our time has decided to step away.
Phil Collins, who has been dealing with severe medical issues, has retired.
Collins announced his retirement on the stage during his concert Saturday night.
Absolute Legend
Any rock fan that grew up in the 80s or 90s is a fan of Phil Collins.
His big break came when drummer John Mayhew left Genesis.
The band brought on Phil Collins, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Collins mostly played drums, percussion, and did background vocals for the first few years of his time with the group.
When Peter Gabriel left the band in 1975, the band auditioned singers, not realizing they had their future behind the drum kit.
Collins was eventually named the lead singer, with Bill Bruford taking over behind the kit when Collins sang.
Collins had his solo debut in 1978 after Genesis finished up a tour and went on break.
That was the beginning of a career that would span five decades.
For Collins’ last concert, his Genesis bandmates Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks joined him on stage.
Collins suffered dislocated vertebrae in 2007, and he has never been the same.
He started walking with a cane in 2015 and has recently had to sit in a chair during his performances.
Enjoy your retirement, Phil, as you were one of the best in the business for decades.
We will miss your music.
