Joe Biden has not even named his finalist list yet and we already have a scandal related to one of his nominees.

The former clerk of one of those believed to be among the favorites has been playing games with online profiles.

Matteo Godi, who is the former law clerk for Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson, has allegedly done some editing on Wikipedia pages to both improve Judge Jackson’s profile and hurt the profile of her competition.

Can’t Do That

With Wikipedia being an open-source database, anyone can go in and create or edit pages.

Godi was reportedly taking care of Judge Jackson’s profile for quite some time, which is not unordinary.

Those with profiles or businesses featured will assign staff to ensure the page is updated and correct.

Godi was reportedly primping Jackson’s profile, particularly in cases where her decisions were overturned.

She also went into the accounts of other candidates to make them less appealing.

Politico said the editing was done to “paint [Jackson] in a more favorable light for a liberal audience, while the pages for other potential nominees — South Carolina federal district court Judge J. Michelle Childs and California Supreme Court Justice Leondra Kruger — were altered to make them potentially less appealing to a left-leaning audience.”

The whistleblower in the case, however, was adamant that Judge Jackson was unaware that Godi had been editing the pages of the other judges.

Regardless of whether Jackson knew about this or not, she will be associated with the scandal.

These are the things vetting committees look at in terms of how much resistance a nominee will face when they go before the Senate Judiciary Committee as well as when their name hits the floor of the Senate.

In trying to help Judge Jackson, Godi may have just taken her out of consideration.
