An Ohio K-9 handler officer has created another wave of complaints for police.
During an early morning warrant, Officer Ricky Anderson was the first man through the door.
When the suspect raised his hand with an object, Anderson opened fire, shooting and killing the suspect.
Upon searching the area, it was discovered the object in the hand was a vape pen, not a weapon.
The Shooting
Officers were serving a warrant for Donovan Lewis, who was no angel.
He was wanted on charges of assault, domestic violence, and felony improperly handling a firearm.
As the K-9 officer searched the home, it appeared that Donovan was in a bedroom behind a closed door.
When the handler officer opened the door, Lewis was sitting on the bed, then raised his hand, which is when the officer opened fire.
Donovan was hit, but it was later found that he only had a vape pen in his hand.
Police Chief Elaine Bryant stated, “Donovan Lewis lost his life.
“As a parent, you know, I sympathize and I grieve with his mother.
“I grieve with our community but we’re gonna allow this investigation to take place.”
I have talked to several members of law enforcement about this, and they are all in agreement that this could go either way.
The one aspect that Officer Anderson has in his favor is the weapons charge, as officers were more than likely told to be alert for a weapon in his hand upon entry.
Having said that, none of them would be surprised if the officer is brought up on charges due to the current political environment.
