A Republican U.S. Congressman from Texas has dropped out of his re-election race after it was disclosed that he had an affair with a woman that had been dubbed the “ISIS bride” by the press.
Rep. Van Taylor asked forgiveness Wednesday after ending his campaign.
Taylor sent out an email to his supporters admitting to the affair and withdrawing from the race.
Taylor had actually garnered just 49 percent in the Republican primary campaign, just short of the required 50 percent to avoid a runoff.
Taylor ended up being a target for pro-Trump Republicans after he voted in favor of the congressional board to explore the Jan. 6 rioting at the U.S. Capitol.
Taylor admitted to the affair with Tania Joya for months.
Taylor reportedly offered Joya $5,000 after ending the affair to help her pay her bills, but it came with the stipulation that she keep her mouth shut.
Joya is referred to as the “ISIS bride” for her previous marriage to a Texas man that was radicalized and joined ISIS in 2013.
Keith Self will now avoid the runoff election and fight it out with his Democrat counterpart for the seat in November.
Taylor is married with 3 children.
Here is a little more information about Joya, who had been interviewed by Glenn Beck about her experience after being radicalized and then leaving her husband…
