When Toby Keith passed away from stomach cancer, he became one of the few celebrities who joined an exclusive club. The club is one composed of famous people whose deaths I openly wept about.
When I heard the news that Toby had passed away, I sat in my garage with tears streaming down my face as if I had been told a beloved family member had passed away.
I’m much older now than I was when I first became aware of Toby Keith’s music. It traveled with me through four years in the military. I was traveling to other countries with Toby Keith in my ears.
I even proposed to my wife outside of a Toby Keith concert. His music has been the soundtrack of my adult life. This is why when he passed I didn’t get the disrespect from some liberals that I saw.
I mean, he passed on. Whatever fight you thought you were having, it’s over.
Well, one thing that doesn’t stop moving along even when someone has passed away is record sales. Yep, people still buy records of folks who have passed on. And Toby Keith, despite being gone from this Earth, has smashed a record held previously by the Queen of the Fainting Couch Liberals, Taylor Swift.
You see, for those that have been following Taylor Swift’s career (whether you wanted to or not), you’ll know that she started as a country singer. She sort of hitched her wagon to it, since that was the only way she could get anyone to pay attention to her.
Then she ditched the country scene and never looked back. However, if you stop making country records, you stop setting and breaking album sales records.
According to data that was recently collected regarding digital album sales, Toby Keith now holds nine of the ten spots on the Country Digital Song Sales chart. From the great beyond, he knocked the ungrateful pain in the rear Taylor Swift out of top contention.
It’s one of those things that people like Taylor Swift just do not understand, we country music fans have a long memory. We remember when someone has done us right and when someone has done us wrong.
If Toby Keith were here to see this, I’m pretty sure he would be smiling that big smile of his knowing folks still loved him.
