People reported that Mann shot himself in the leg at around 4 p.m. local time.
The Los Angeles Police Department told People that officers responded to a shots-fired call on the 11000 block of Missouri Avenue and determined the shooting was accidental.
The person injured was taken to a local hospital in stable condition.
Mann was reportedly trying to holster the weapon when it fired.
The Associated Press reported that he has been an experienced target shooter for decades.
The filmmaker is developing “Heat 2,” based on the 2022 novel he co-wrote with Meg Gardiner. His most recent film was 2023’s “Ferrari,” starring Adam Driver and Penélope Cruz.
Mann began his career in the 1960s and also directed “The Last of the Mohicans,” “The Insider” and “Ali.” He executive produced the original “Miami Vice” television series before directing the 2006 film.
