This weekend, New York gubernatorial candidate Lee Zeldin had booked Governor Ron DeSantis to be his headliner at a $25,000 per plate meal.

Zeldin got the word at the last minute that DeSantis would not be able to make it.

At the time, it was only announced that there was an “unforeseen tragedy,” but we have since learned why DeSantis had to return to Florida.

Sad Day

It was actually the First Lady of Florida that broke the news.

A longtime member of Florida law enforcement and a member of DeSantis’ detail had been struck and killed while working in an unmarked car.

Mrs. DeSantis stated, “Today we mourn the tragic loss of FDLE Special Agent Jose Perez, who died in the line of duty.

“With over 20 years in the U.S. armed forces & more than 30 years in law enforcement, he lived a valiant life serving our nation & state.

“The entire @fdlepio community is in our prayers.”

Zeldin did move forward with the event.

Commentator Dan Bongino was able to fill in on short notice for DeSantis.

DeSantis is expected to make a return visit to New York at another event to help Zeldin in his battle against Governor Hochul.
