He was 73 years old.
A True Legend
Lanier played during a time when professional basketball was about more than running and gunning.
He was a big man who played inside and made the opposing team’s players pay dearly for daring to come into his territory.
During his career, he scored 19,248 points, for an average of more than 20 points per game.
He also had 9,698 rebounds and 1,100 blocked shots.
The man loved the game until his last day, working as an ambassador for the NBA worldwide.
He was an eight-time All-Star, winning the All-Star game’s MVP award once.
Lanier played 10 years for the Detroit Pistons and four seasons for the Milwaukee Bucks, both teams of which have retired his jersey.
