Well, it looks like Joe Biden may finally be growing a set.
Either that or Secretary of State Blinken is speaking out of turn.
According to a Blinken interview this weekend, the United States is finally considering a US-Europe ban on Russian oil products.
Strangle Putin’s Energy Income
From the outset of this conflict, I have maintained that the only card we and our allies have to play is choking Putin’s energy business.
Russia gets an estimated $70 million a day from the United States for oil.
The country also supplies about 40 percent of Europe’s energy.
You shut that down, you cripple Putin and force him to come to the peace table.
There is simply no way Putin can afford to keep this conflict going without that money.
Blinken, on the possibility of banning Russian energy sales, stated, “The actions we’ve taken to date have already had a devastating impact on the Russian economy.
“We’ve seen the ruble in free fall.
“We see the economy heading into a deep recession.
“We’ve already had a major impact, but we are looking, again, as we speak, in coordination with allies and partners at this prospect of banning oil imports.”
The key for this to really work is to ensure that Europe is able to issue the ban and still be able to meet its energy needs.
All the while, Putin is getting more and more aggressive because he knows the clock is now ticking on this front.
We will continue to monitor and update as needed.
