Just hours ago, another mass shooting occurred in Smithsburg, MD.
According to local reports, at least three people are dead.
Numerous others are wounded, including an officer who responded to the scene.
Shooter is Down
It is still early in the reporting, so we are unsure of the motive behind the shooting.
What we do know, however, is that a local factory erupted in gunfire around 2:30 p.m. EDT.
A Maryland State Trooper managed to find the gunman, taking one shot in the shoulder in the process.
(5:27 p.m. CDT Update: Fox News is now reporting that the shooter initially escaped the scene, but he was found by the Trooper, which is where he engaged the shooter.)
However, the Trooper was able to return fire and eliminate the threat.
Local Deputies stated, “the suspect is no longer a threat to the community.”
The Sheriff’s office continued, “This is a rapidly evolving incident and we will release information as we are able.”
Local authorities are expected to give an update at 5:45 p.m. EDT.
