Donald Trump is breaking federal law, and do not be surprised if Democrats go after him hard for it.
This is Trump thumbing his nose at the federal government, make no mistake about that.
He has the presidential seal plastered all over the LIV golf tournament at his New Jersey club, and people are starting to take notice.
If the case is pursued, Trump could be sentenced to six months in jail.
Why Do It?
This is stupid on Trump’s part… plain and simple.
The presidential logo cannot be used in any way to give an “impression of sponsorship or approval by the Government of the United States.”
Trump, however, has it plastered all over golf carts, towels, tee markers, and other items at the golf tournament hosted at his New Jersey golf resort this weekend.
Violation of the law, if convicted, is a fine or up to six months in jail.
It is only more salt in the wound that it is for the tour that is backed by the Saudis.
He keeps giving Democrats ways to take him down, which makes no sense.
Now, pursuing the case is another matter, but Attorney General Merrick Garland has proven he has it out for Trump, so why give them a slam dunk?
Going to jail, however, would not prevent Trump from running for president again, as there is no clarity on this in the Constitution.
The only requirements laid out are natural-born citizen, age, and residency.
Is this silly, absolutely, but I do not understand Trump’s thinking here.
Think about how damaging this could be if Garland decided to wait until, say, January of 2024 to charge him.
Trump could literally be sitting in a jail cell for the final push of the election rather than being on the campaign trail.
It just makes no sense to push an issue like this.
