“Right here in Montana, the Department of War is going to establish a new super range for testing advanced weapons and technologies,” he told supporters at Majestic Valley Arena.
He said other parts of the country had wanted the project, and credited persistent lobbying from Republican Sen. Tim Sheehy. “Leave me alone, Tim,” Trump joked.
Trump did not say where in Montana the range would be located, how much it would cost or when testing would begin, Fox News reports.
The report includes no reaction to the announcement from Democrats.
The rally was Trump’s second of the day and the third stop on a Western swing supporting Republican candidates ahead of the midterm elections.
In Montana, he campaigned for House candidate Aaron Flint and Senate candidate Kurt Alme, after a rally in Arizona earlier Wednesday and a stop in Alaska on Tuesday.
