A 20-year-old man whose father works for Baltimore’s city prosecutor’s office is accused of sexually assaulting two 13-year-old girls, and the case has been handed to Baltimore County prosecutors because of the family connection, The Baltimore Sun reports.

Shop NowMalik Hassan Allen faces more than a dozen charges, including rape, assault and sex offenses, stemming from allegations made last year.
The two cases are separate. In one, DNA testing determined that Allen fathered a child born to one of the girls, according to court records cited by the Sun.
Allen’s father, Hassan Giordano, is chief of external affairs for the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office.
Because of that potential conflict, the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office is prosecuting the cases.
“When our office learned of the allegations, it immediately referred the matter to the Baltimore County State’s Attorney’s Office because of the potential conflict, so that they could conduct their own investigation,” said James Bentley, a spokesperson for the city prosecutor’s office.
Allen has been held without bond since his arrest in June.
He has not been convicted, and the charges against him remain allegations that will be tested in court.
