Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) is believed to be on Donald Trump’s shortlist for VPs.
Honestly, at this point, she seems more dedicated to Trump than she is to her constituents.
For instance, she has filed yet another complaint against another judge in a Trump lawsuit.
Making Her Move
As she did with Judge Engoron in the New York business fraud civil suit, Stefanik has filed an ethics complaint against Judge Merchan in the hush-money case.
She has a legitimate argument that there is a clear conflict of interest because Judge Merchan’s daughter represents numerous Democrats and has been fundraising off this case.
In her complaint, she stated, “This private caution has not deterred Judge Merchan’s judicial misconduct, as evidenced by this current complaint.
“Judge Merchan appears driven by Democrat partisanship and financial gain for his daughter.”
Stefanik continued, “This is especially true in politically sensitive cases where bias is most likely to rear its ugly head.
“Here, we are in the middle of a presidential election campaign.
“The circumstances are unprecedented: President Trump, a former president and the likely nominee of a major party for the presidency, is on trial.
“These proceedings are under a microscope.”
She concluded, “A straightforward application of Section 100.3(e)(1)(D)(iii) requires recusal.
“As Judge Merchan has declined to do so, I request that you investigate his conduct and impose whatever discipline is required.”
Honestly, this should have been done by Trump’s defense team, not a member of Congress, but like I said, she is trying to prove her loyalty to Trump so that she can get on that presidential ticket.
Given the state of the House and the GOP in general, I wonder if this is the best use of her time and taxpayer resources.
