Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has said her government will introduce legislation banning full-face coverings in schools and capping the number of foreign students in individual classes.

Shop NowMeloni announced the plans on Sunday at the Fenix youth festival, according to Breitbart, which credited the Italian outlets Corriere della Sera and ANSA for her remarks.
These are stated intentions rather than bills: no legislation has been introduced, and no numerical cap on foreign students was specified.
The proposals have three parts — a limit on how many foreign pupils may be placed in one class, a prohibition on burqas and niqabs in schools, and a requirement that parents of foreign children who are struggling to integrate learn Italian.
“It’s unthinkable that in an Italian classroom, Italian children feel cornered,” Meloni said.
On face coverings, she said: “We go to school with our faces uncovered, and in Italy, no one… can decide that a young woman must hide.”
Roberto Vannacci, the former general and a figure on the Italian right, said he “absolutely agrees” with the measures but that they “should have come years ago.”
