The defendants come from 14 countries, Just the News reported: Italy, the Bahamas, Cuba, Mexico, Nicaragua, North Macedonia, Liberia, Lithuania, Ghana, Germany, Bosnia, Brazil, Canada and South Africa.
The department’s own announcement, which the article links to, lists the alleged offenses as including voting by an alien, false claims of U.S. citizenship to register or vote, and false statements on citizenship applications.
It says the conduct involved the 2024 primary and general elections and, in Minnesota, elections in August 2022 and August 2026.
The announcement quotes no officials, and neither it nor the Just the News article reports any comment from President Donald Trump.
Just the News noted that the charges arrive ahead of the November midterms and that the administration has made election fraud a stated priority.
The charges are allegations. The Justice Department said all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
