Early this morning, a train derailed about 300 miles outside of Tehran, Iran.
Four of the seven cars of the train came off the tracks.
At least 17 are already reported as dead, with dozens more injured, many of them in critical condition.
More Deaths Expected
The scene was horrific.
Witnesses stated that bodies were bouncing around in the trains when the train came off the tracks.
There were more than 400 passengers on the train at the time of the accident, so both the injured and killed numbers could rise significantly by the time rescue workers are able to clear the sceneā¦
The fact the accident happened in the middle of a desert town did not help the situation.
While first responders were able to get to the accident, communications in the area are limited.
One witness stated that the train suddenly braked right before going off the tracks.
Reports are now coming in that an excavator may have been on or near the tracks, which caused the derailment.
The investigation is still ongoing, so will update the report as more information becomes available.
