President Donald Trump announced on Truth Social on Sunday that East Potomac Golf Links in Washington will close Nov. 15 for a redesign by architect Tom Fazio, keeping the historic public course shut for about 15 months, GOLF.com reported.
The announcement lands in the middle of a federal lawsuit over the project. After the Interior Department removed more than 400 trees at the course with less than a day’s notice, U.S. District Judge Ana C. Reyes ordered that no more trees be removed until Oct. 26.
Whether work can begin Nov. 15 is the question now before the court.
Shortly after Trump’s post, Reyes demanded that government lawyers explain by Sunday evening why they had told the court Friday that “at most … the President has given preliminary thought” to remaking the course.
Two officials, the Interior Department’s Gregory Wischer and acting National Park Service director Jessica Bowron, have been ordered to testify Monday.
Trump called the current course “old, broken, dilapidated.”
Its operator says it hosted 124,500 rounds in 2025, the most in the D.C. area. Democracy Forward, which represents the challengers, said the park “is meant for everyone to enjoy.”
