Susan Saint James, who co-starred with Rock Hudson in the 1970s crime series “McMillan & Wife” and with Jane Curtin in the 1980s sitcom “Kate & Allie,” has died at 80.

People magazine, citing a representative, said she died Monday. She had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, The Associated Press reported.

Born Susan Jane Miller in Los Angeles in 1946, she won an Emmy in 1969 for playing research assistant Peggy Maxwell on “The Name of the Game.”

Her biggest fame came as Sally McMillan from 1971 to 1976, a role that earned three Emmy nominations. She left before the final season over a contract dispute.

She reunited with Curtin on CBS’s “Kate & Allie” from 1984 to 1989, earning two more nominations.

She met Dick Ebersol, later chairman of NBC Sports, while guest-hosting “Saturday Night Live” in 1981, and they married about six weeks later.

Their son Teddy died at 14 in a 2004 private plane crash. “She never met a stranger,” her family said in a statement to People.

She retired to raise her children in Litchfield, Connecticut, and was a longtime Special Olympics supporter. She is survived by her husband and four children.
