Federal immigration officials say a Guinean national charged with assaulting a New York City police officer with a deadly weapon was released by the NYPD without notice to ICE and remains at large, Fox News Digital first reported.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, Alpha Bah entered the United States illegally in November 2023.
After his latest arrest, on charges including aggravated assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration, ICE lodged a detainer with Queens Central Booking on Oct. 7. DHS says the NYPD ignored it and released him.
The assault charge is an accusation; Fox’s report does not say how the case has proceeded in court.
It was the second time, DHS says. Bah was arrested in June 2026 on a charge of intent to obtain transportation without paying, and the NYPD released him then despite a detainer lodged with Manhattan Central Booking.
DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin called on Gov. Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani “to knock it off with these evil sanctuary policies.”
In May, Hochul signed legislation barring New York law enforcement agencies from formal agreements with ICE. Neither office immediately replied to Fox’s request for comment.
