The 52-count indictment of New York Attorney General Letitia James released Thursday is not a criminal charge.

It is a mock indictment issued by Saritha Komatireddy, the Republican challenging the Democratic incumbent, Fox News Digital reports. Fox describes the document as an indictment-style press release.

The release accuses James of neglecting her duties as the state’s top law enforcement official, saying she failed to address mentally ill people living on the streets, repeat offenders, hate crimes and fraud while focusing on political battles with President Donald Trump.

Komatireddy is a former federal prosecutor. The document came out hours before the two candidates’ first televised debate of the general election campaign.

James’ campaign dismissed it as a stunt. A spokeswoman told Fox News Digital that James “files real lawsuits in real courts every day,” and said the attorney general had that day announced the arrest and indictment of a Queens pharmacy owner on charges of defrauding Medicaid of $31 million.

Komatireddy spokeswoman Nicole Kiprilov responded that James’ own tenure has been a political stunt and blamed her for rising crime and homelessness.

A Siena University poll released last month had James leading 52% to 39%, Fox reported, with her advantage narrowing by five points between August and September.
