Jon Rahm is leaving LIV Golf, his lawyer told a federal bankruptcy judge Wednesday, according to the Daily Caller, which cited ESPN’s reporting from the hearing.
Rahm is not retiring from golf. He is exiting one league.
Attorney John Beck told Judge Michael B. Kaplan of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey that Rahm had independently reviewed the proposed terms of what Beck called LIV 2.0, found them “unacceptable” and will not take part going forward, ESPN reported.
Beck said Rahm and LIV are working on a separation agreement they want finished by Oct. 15.
Rahm is a two-time major champion.
LIV is trying to emerge from federal bankruptcy without the financial backing of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the Daily Caller reported.
Where Rahm will play in 2027 is not known.
The Daily Caller item is labeled an opinion blog. Its author, Andrew Powell, argued that the PGA Tour should negotiate Rahm’s return and impose whatever fines and penalties it considers necessary to protect the circuit.
That is the writer’s view, not a reported development. The piece cites no statement from the PGA Tour, from Jay Monahan, from LIV Golf or from Rahm himself about where he goes next.
