Fox News host Sean Hannity said on election night that the U.S. war with Iran was a major factor in the sweeping losses Republicans suffered in Tuesday’s midterm elections, The Hill reports.

Fox anchor Bret Baier asked Hannity whether the results would have been different if the war had not been on voters’ minds. “I think 100 percent, I don’t think there’s any doubt about it,” Hannity replied.

Hannity, a longtime vocal supporter of President Donald Trump, argued that the “fundamentals of the economy” are solid under the administration, but added that “if people don’t feel it, it is a problem.”

He said voters want a secure border but did not like many of the immigration enforcement videos Democrats promoted, and that displeasure over the war and its economic effects “is the more dominant feeling force now.”

The comments came one day after Hannity hosted Trump for an exclusive interview.

According to The Hill, Trump spent much of election night posting on Truth Social to complain that Fox’s coverage gave too much time to Democrats and too little to his accomplishments.

Republicans took major losses in both the House and the Senate, setting up a clash with the president over his final two years in office.
