Caleb Flynn, a former “American Idol” contestant, is accused of fatally shooting his wife, Ashley Flynn, in the back of the head inside their Tipp City, Ohio, home on Feb. 16 and staging the scene to look like a break-in. He has pleaded not guilty to aggravated murder and other charges.
Over two days of testimony, his former mistress, Alleigha Botner, took jurors through messages from their affair, Fox News reports.
In May 2025, Flynn allegedly wrote, “If I could literally kill her and not go to hell, I would do it in a heartbeat.”
In June, he allegedly told Botner, “Please hire someone to take [her] out.” Shortly after midnight on the day of the killing, he allegedly wrote, “It’s happening,” then “February 16th – day I’ll never forget.”
Botner also testified that Flynn once showed her a gun he kept in his truck’s center console. The weapon has not been found.
Former prosecutor Josh Ritter said her testimony gives jurors “a reason for why would this man murder his wife.”
The defense says prosecutors cherry-picked the most damaging lines from more than 100,000 messages, and notes there is no murder weapon, no eyewitness and no gunshot residue on Flynn.
