Democrats traveled to Dallas to campaign against the Republican midterm convention as it opened, arguing the event was a diversion from the administration’s record on the economy, health care and the Iran war.
Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, a possible 2028 presidential contender, said “this bizarre Republican midterm convention here can’t paper over the fact that Republicans have done nothing to earn your vote.”
Texas state lawmaker James Talarico, challenging Attorney General Ken Paxton for a Senate seat, held a food drive at Friendship West Baptist Church.
“While we’re here serving our neighbors, billionaire megadonors and their puppet politicians are clinking their Champagne glasses,” he said. “They are toasting to their own corruption.”
Texas Democratic chairman Kendall Scudder said “Trump’s trickle-up economics is taking money out of your pocket and giving it to the richest people in this country.”
Gina Hinojosa, running against Gov. Greg Abbott, visited a Dallas venue displaying Epstein-related files and met accusers.
Rep. Robert Garcia of California, ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, said the party’s message would center on material concerns: “We want to ensure that people can actually live their lives, be able to work, have access to health care.”
